El Grito (1968-1970) by Leobard López Aretche is one of the few movie testimonials from the student movement about 1968 and the brutal events on October 2nd in Tlatelolco. A collective document made clandestinely in the context of a repressive state. 1968: A Blind Archive takes images and the original sound recordings from the film and asks the following questions – What is the place of the “real” within the material that is composed of a multitude of fragments, prints and visions? How does the imagination work when structuring a political document of this type?

Made in collaboration with sound artist, Mario de Vega. Commissioned for the FICUNAM Festival with support by Alumnos 47 Foundation
