“Speaking to the conditions of transience and exile, while liberating that experience from the exclusively diaristic
realm of personal identity politics to be as distinctive as it is necessary. Bani leans in to disorientation and otherness, revealing
an on-the-ground thinking that values pilgrimage as research. Bani’s work is sensorial and playful, sensuous yet dissatisfied,
stubborn in its pursuit of the unspoken and the under-represented. Her idiomatic shifts and cinematic key changes impart a creative
impatience around complacency of language or method. The films question how the distance of bodies might be tied
to mechanisms of vision, and prompt us to consider complex ethical relationships to home and place.”
